EVENT: Conversation with Aanchal Malhotra
Monday 30th January 2023 | 15:30 – 17:30 | Online | Register here
Last November we had a conversation with oral historian, Aanchal Malhotra, where we discussed her book Remnants of Partition (2017) to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Independence, India’s partition and the creation of Pakistan. The book portrays stories revealed by items carried by migrants between India and Pakistan amongst the chaos and violence of partition, using objects like magical totems to conjure a rich tapestry of pain and trauma, but also of hope and connection.
We have the pleasure of inviting Aanchal Malhotra back to discuss In the Language of Remembering: the Inheritance of Partition (2022). This volume is a natural progression from Remnants of Partition, exploring the past and the effect of its legacy in the daily lives of subsequent generations. Aanchal brings together recorded conversations over many years from first to third generations of individuals from Indian, Bangladeshi, Punjabi and Sri Lankan diasporas.
Aanchal Malhotra will be in conversation with Sukie Sagoo-Reddy on Monday 30 January at 15:30. This event is online and free to join. Spread the word, and bring your own stories too.
