On the second anniversary of India’s recent farmer’s uprising, writer Amandeep Sandhu, journalist and academic Dr Gurnam Singh & UAL’s Rahul Patel reflect on their struggle; moderated by Shumi Bose. Watch the recording below.
January 26 is Republic Day in India. This year, the date will also commemorate the second anniversary of Indian farmers’ momentous demonstration on India’s capital city, against Narendra Modi and his government’s calamitous attempt to impose global corporatising farm legislation. In December 2021, Modi accepted defeat.
In this session three assembled speakers — Bangalore-based writer Amandeep Sandhu, journalist Dr Gurnam Singh and lecturer Rahul Patel — will give their own perspectives on the march that day from different vantage points and geographical locations, reflecting on what happened after the victory and what it means for the future.
The consideration of contested contemporary narratives requires meaningful navigation, the process of thoughtful critique and enquiries. This session will also consider the process of documenting contemporaneous events in creative art, design, and communication knowledge production. The assembly of research and the interaction with lived experiences is at the core of this conversation.
