Inside creative research: India’s spice & food culture with Rajinder Kalsi | Wed, 8 Feb 2023 15:00 | In-Person Workshop, Venue TBC | Register here

This immersive workshop aims to bring together a diverse group in collaborating and utilising creative skills to weave a story drawing on your memories of food and Spice. The workshop will be a stimulating sensory, and the responses funnelled into a creative outcome.

Rajinder Kalsi has been in the creative industry working as a Graphic designer for 30 years and returned to education to study MA in Applied Imagination in the Creative Industries at CSM. Rajinder was awarded a distinction for the MA project leading to three threads forming a core-being which were: skills and understanding of food; curiosity and passion to learn about global cultures; and an awareness that memories and stories need to be documented before they are lost. These elements were evolved later in exploring food, culture, and storytelling for a workshop with international students and communities. She has set-up a social enterprise platform called, Food-Connect and currently working in collaboration with West London Council and Gunnersbury Museum in delivering workshops to communities creating a zine full of memories and recording cultural food experience.

You will be encouraged to explore and share your memories and beliefs that have shaped your life and understanding of the world. Through your contributions we will look at the values and traditions of the cultures present and see if any patterns emerge. No previous experience in any area is required, just a passion to share stories of food, spices, culture.

The ‘Inside creative research’ series takes a behind-the-scenes look at practice, learning and research with an increasing range of speakers from all UAL Subject areas. External speakers are invited to open up about their practice to UAL students, away from public-facing engagements.
